In 2021, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revised the Lead and Copper Rule requiring Public Water Supplier to:

  • Conduct a Lead Service Line Inventory
  • Notify the customer of any known or potential lead service lines.
  • A public notification of a lead level exceedance.

Recently, Waterworks District 8 completed an inventory of the service lines in the system to determine the possible presence of lead service lines.

Waterworks District 8 was determined to have no lead service lines. We came to this determination through examination of water district records; the system came on online in the late 1980s, after the State of Louisiana’s lead ban. All homes connecting to the District’s mains were required to install all new service lines to connect to the new meters.

If you have questions about this statement, the lead service line inventory, our methods of determination, or lead in drinking water in general please call our environmental compliance team at (337) 721-3700.
